Mit dem Deutschen Tanzpreis wird eine überragende Persönlichkeit des Tanzes in Deutschland geehrt. Für das Jahr 2018 wählte eine international besetzte Jury die Dramaturgin und Kulturmanagerin Nele Hertling zur Preisträgerin. Im Rahmen des Deutschen Tanzpreises werden auch herausragende Interpret*innen und Ensembles sowie besondere Entwicklungen in der Tanzlandschaft gewürdigt. So wird 2018 die Choreografin Meg Stuart mit ihrer Kompanie Damaged Goods für ihren Ansatz der Kreation der Werke und das Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett unter Leitung von Goyo Montero für die Entwicklung eines Ballettensembles geehrt. 

Diese zweiteilige Festschrift erscheint zur Verleihung des Deutschen Tanzpreises. Grußworte und Texte vermitteln einen Eindruck von den konzeptionellen und ästhetischen Ansätzen der Künstler*innen und der Entwicklung ihrer Produktionen. Die Laudatio auf Meg Stuart / Damaged Goods hält Stefan Hilterhaus, künstlerischer Leiter von PACT Zollverein in Essen. Die Laudatorin für Goyo Montero und das Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballett ist Prof. Dr. Julia Lehner, Kulturdezernentin der Stadt Nürnberg. 

Begründet durch den Deutschen Berufsverband für Tanzpädagogik, wurde der Deutsche Tanzpreis erstmalig 1983 verliehen. Seit 2018 ist der Träger der Dachverband Tanz Deutschland. Die Tanz-Gala zur Preisverleihung findet alljährlich im Aalto-Theater Essen statt, in diesem Jahr am 22. September.

The German Dance Award honours an outstanding personality on the German dance scene. The international jury has chosen dramaturge and cultural manager Nele Hertling as the recipient of the 2018 award. The German Dance Award also honours outstanding performers and ensembles as well as special developments on the dance scene. This year, choreographer Meg Stuart and her company Damaged Goods will be honoured for their approach in creating their works. The Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet Company, under the direction of Goyo Montero, will be honoured for their development of a ballet ensemble. 

This two-part Festschrift is being published on the occasion of the German Dance Award ceremony. Greetings and texts convey an impression of the conceptual and aesthetic approaches of the artists and the development of their productions. The laudatory speech for Meg Stuart / Damaged Goods will be given by Stefan Hilterhaus, Artistic Director of PACT Zollverein in Essen. The laudatory speech for Goyo Montero and the Staatstheater Nürnberg Ballet Company will be given by Prof. Dr. Julia Lehner, Nuremberg City Councillor for Culture. 

Established by the Deutscher Berufsverband für Tanzpädagogik, the prize was first awarded in 1983. In 2018, the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland took over the responsibility and organization of the German Dance Award. The dance gala on the occasion of the award ceremony takes place annually at the Aalto Theatre in Essen and will fall on 22 September this year. 

Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert, former President of the German Bundestag, is the patron of the Award.
