«The River II» by Jasna L. Vinovrški is a work that has the format of a parkour. The audience is invited to three different spaces in which they can experience room installation, live performance and video projection. Each of these spaces zooms into the transitional period between life and death, by looking at personal space and objects after someone passing, as well as the ceremonial, and organisational aspect of a funeral: “What remains?” After the moment of passing, the private situation of grief and loss, suddenly becomes public and institutionalised; hospital staff and funeral homes are involved. For Jasna, this transformation places the idea of funerals in proximity to theatre spaces as a gathering of strangers, underlining the melancholic, humorous, absurdity and sometimes ungraspability of one’s passing.

«The River II» navigates these four components to address an issue that is both personal and social. In the process, the theatre becomes a place of transformation where human reason is stretched to its limits in the unifying co-presence of strangers.

«The River II» is the second part of a dyptich on the theme of mourning and loss, which began in summer of 2022 with regular boat performances by Aimé C. Songe (aka Clément Layes).

«The River II» von Jasna L. Vinovrški ist eine Arbeit, die das Format eines Parkours hat. Das Publikum wird in drei verschiedene Räume eingeladen, in denen es eine Rauminstallation, eine Live-Performance und eine Videoprojektion erleben kann. Jeder dieser Räume zoomt in die Übergangszeit zwischen Leben und Tod, indem er den persönlichen Raum und die Objekte nach dem Tod eines Menschen sowie den zeremoniellen und organisatorischen Aspekt einer Beerdigung betrachtet: "Was bleibt?". Nach dem Moment des Todes wird die private Situation der Trauer und des Verlusts plötzlich öffentlich und institutionalisiert; Krankenhauspersonal und Bestattungsunternehmen sind involviert.

Für Jasna rückt diese Transformation die Idee von Beerdigungen in die Nähe von Theaterräumen als Versammlung von Fremden und unterstreicht die Melancholie, den Humor, die Absurdität und manchmal die Unfassbarkeit des eigenen Ablebens.

«The River II» navigiert zwischen diesen vier Komponenten, um ein persönliches und gesellschaftliches Thema anzusprechen. Dabei wird das Theater zu einem Ort der Verwandlung, an dem die menschliche Vernunft in der verbindenden Ko-Präsenz von Fremden an ihre Grenzen stößt.

«The River II» ist der zweite Teil eines Dyptichs zum Thema Trauer und Verlust, das im Sommer 2022 mit regelmäßigen Bootsaufführungen von Aimé C. Songe (aka Clément Layes) begann.
