Liquid History

Beschreibung

Liquid History tells the story of London through 5 objects found on the shore of the the River Thames. The audience journey below the water and follow the river’s currents as they discover objects and reveal their stories through physical theatre and song. The ebb and flow of the river becomes a metaphor for the ebb and flow of London's people across time.

Composed by Sarah Dacey, Liquid History weaves songs from the river, sea shanties, folk song and contemporary composition together to create a beautiful reflection on what our city means. The opera was created in collaboration with The Museum of London Docklands, Mudlark Nick Stevens, and the people and children of Southend (through Metal Culture.)

The performance uses real historic objects from the river bed itself, which can be handled and explored at the end of each performance. The project was conceived to be able to be performed anywhere, and travels with minimal set.

The work first toured to Reading Museum, Museum of London and Waterman's Art centre in 2017, in 2018 it is being revised and presented at the National Maritime Museum, and is currently being reviewed to be part of The Royal Opera House's Open Up Programme. The work comes with an optional operatic 'walkabout' which entices new audiences to the performance using street art, song and physical theatre.

"The Ideal Family Event', Berhard Hughes, The Arts Desk.
Liquid History is the recipient of the Stephen Oliver Award 2017.
