Beschreibung

Everything goes to plan is inspired by archive material from the 1940s from Ondrej Adamek's Jewish family in Prague. Some of his relatives were sent to concentration camps and wrote letters to their loved ones at home in Prague.
The content of these letters is paradoxically positive and happy. The other source material of the libretto was a catalogue Adamek's grandfather was forced to work on by the nazis. The catalogue advertised empty flats that belonged to Jewish families, which were sent to camps, as new real estate.

Based on the cold propaganda language of this catalogue and the emotional language of the letters, Schmitt and Adamek created a piece about memory, trauma and the history of people in relation to the history of objects. The spatial metaphor for the organisation of memory in the peformance is an archive, in which objects from the past are categorized and ghost voices speak through objects to today's rational archivists.

Word for word, phoneme for phoneme musical gestures between whispering, rhythmic speaking, screams, and singing emerge. Impersonal voices mechanically repeat themselves, and interrupt a counterfeit good piece of news from a beloved relative written shortly before he died. At first the deceased appear in human form and then later on in their natural form: as a cupboard, as a rug, as a kitchen device ... Neither pure negation nor an overabundance of positivism provides an escape, for the past is not dead, it has not even passed.
