Beschreibung

Budulínek – A play based on a classic Czech fairytale in which a little boy disobeys his grandparents’ instructions not to open the door to anyone while they are out. The creators of this studio production have respected the story while developing it in an original way by adding a number of innovative motifs. The theme of disobedience no longer applies merely to the disobedient Budulínek or the over-sensitive ears of the crafty fox who comes to his door, but also to Budulínek’s grandparents, whose hearing is terrible. Why this is so and how it all led to Budulínek’s adventure is revealed by this winning studio production, full of humour, live music and puppetry delights.

About the director of "Budulínek": Michaela Homolová (b. 1972) – Director and actor at the Naive Theatre in Liberec. She studied directing and dramaturgy at KALD DAMU, graduating in 1995 with the production Round the World in Eighty Days in the Small Theatre in České Budějovice. From 1996 she worked with Babadlo in Prešov. In 1999 she joined the Naive Theatre as an actor and director. Since 2005 she has regularly worked with author Vít Peřina, and their productions for children and young people (Alphabet Soup, The Magic Porridge Pot, Roast Doves, or Proverbs, Budulínek and others) have won a number of festival awards.

Reviews:
The production (…) is appealingly modest, immediate (helped by the fact that it takes place not on a large stage but in a studio), fresh and has something to say. It seems almost a miracle that this Liberec theatre, despite severe budget constraints, has managed to maintain such a high standard of premieres this year, and that modest material conditions can give rise to such excellent theatre, rich in ideas.

Granny and Grandpa subscribe to Modern Music magazine, and in the evening they practise rock music, deafening themselves. Granny plays the electric violin, and also uses effects, her favourite being wah-wah. Grandpa keeps up the tempo on the drums.. The Naive Theatre’s Budulínek is a child of our times. The postwoman brings cash-on-delivery parcels and the hero holds class reunions from nursery.
