Information

Ivan Rajmont (1945) - Graduated in directing from DAMU in 1971. While still a student, he guest directed at the Nezval Theatre in Karlovy Vary, and worked there after he graduated (1971-75). There then followed his famous era at the Činoherní studio in Ústí nad Labem (1975-86). For most of this time he was not only a director there, but artistic head. The very first play that he directed there, in 1975 - "Jacques le fataliste" - became almost a cult production, and was performed 223 times. In the second half of the 1980s he directed at Prague's Theatre on the Balustrade. On 7 December 1989 he was appointed the first post-revolution head of the drama section at the National Theatre, a post in which he remained until July 1997. He still directs at the National Theatre. He has directed the repertory for twenty years - becoming legendary. Ivan Rajmont is now artistic head at the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec, and lectures at DAMU. He specialises in directing classic dramatic texts with a moral dimension, and careful understanding of the characters by the actors.
