Rostilav Novák jr. (1979) - Playwright, director, choreographer and actor. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at DAMU, and comes from one of the oldest Czech puppeteer families, the Kopechkýs. He has acted in a number of Prague theatres (Minor, Archa, the National Theatre, the Prague City Theatre etc.) as well as in television series and films. Together with the directorial tandem SKUTR - Martin Kukučka and Lukáš Trpišovský - he was the author of the project "La Putyka", which skilfully combined acrobatics, dance, puppets and sporting feats. The reason for the unparalleled success of "La Putyka" lay in the high level of the artistic performances given by top sportspeople, and the balancing of the theatrical and circus elements. During the year 2009, Cirk la Putyka was founded as a non-profit organisation, and Novák was appoined its artistic head. His first independently-directed work was "Up'End'Down", while in the Minor Theatre he staged the family play "Is the Circus Coming!?" (2011) and, in Cirk La Putyka, "Risk" (2013) with an international cast. "Novák as the modern principal of the most successful Czech new circus company is creating an engrossing chapter in Czech theatre, and one that is one of the few that is in live contact with the top European performers in its genre," Ondřej Cihlář has written.
