Information

Marcela Levi (1973, Rio de Janeiro) is a performer and choreographer. Since 2002 Levi has been building up a language that disturbs the hierarchy between body and object, affecting several dichotomies (inside and outside, body and mind, active and passive, assertion and denial) that quite often guide our perception. She was an artist in residence at Les Recollets (France), at Programa Artistas en Residencia-Casa Encendida / Aula de Danza (Spain) and together with artist Laura Erber, she received the Batiscafo grant (Cuba). Her projects: Image (2002), Mass of Senses (included by the Brazilian newspaper O Globo as one of the best dance shows of 2004) and In-organic (Klaus Vianna Dance prize, Program Rumos Itaú Cultural, included by English organization Artsadmin in The top 40 illustrated guide to 2008 and named three times in ballettanz’s 2008 Yearbook) have been presented in several festivals and art centers in Brazil, Latin America and Europe such as Les inaccoutumés – Ménagerie de Verre, In Transit, In Presentables, Rencontres Choregraphiques de Seine-Saint-Denis, Kunsten Festival des Arts, Nottdance, Arnolfini, Chapter, Bienal Internacional de dança do Ceará, Festival Panorama de Dança, among others. In 2009 Marcela has created a new project Around the hole everything is edge in collaboration with dancer Flavia Meireles and visual artist Laura Erber (awarded by the Brazilian Artistic Creation Incentive Program of Fundação Nacional de Artes and included by the Brazilian newspaper O Globo as one of the 2009 highlights dance shows). Besides her projects, Levi collaborates with choreographers Vera Mantero, Dani Lima, Lia Rodrigues and with photographers Claudia Garcia and Manuel Vason. (quelle: http://marcelalevi.com/bio/
