In 1991, Hiroyo KITAO(Japan) started solo dance performances and workshop activities in Osaka. In 1996, she organized a contemporary dance unit: esqui nouver. Their goal is found in the inducement of mental pictures, resulting from one's awareness of spatial and physical transfigurations. In her performances being composed of physical and spatial expressions, Kitao incorporates not only her contemplation on the theme which she brings up to the level of abstraction, but also her confrontation with the truth hidden in the physical perception. While pursuing the themes of her works deeply and, moreover, essentially, Kitao confronts the truths underlying physical perception and seek to imbue her performances with "corporal thinking" through her physical expression and spatial presentation.
