Kaum eine Weltregion ist in unseren Medien derzeit so präsent wie der arabische Sprachraum mit seinen Revolutionen, Revolten, Kriegen. Und selten wurde mit einer solch eigenartigen Mischung aus Sympathie, Befremden und Unverständnis über welthistorische Ereignisse berichtet wie über das, was seit dem Dezember 2010 in Tunesien und Ägypten, Libyen und Syrien passiert. „Theater im arabischen Sprachraum" wurde vor dem Hintergrund dieser Umwälzungen und im Bewusstsein verfasst, dass das Theater oft die politischste und spontanste aller Kunstformen sein kann. Es ist eine Bestandsaufnahme der theaterpraktischen Arbeit im arabischen Sprachraum in einer turbulenten, widersprüchlichen Zeit. And there has rarely been such an odd mixture of sympathy, dismay and incomprehension of globally-important events as in the coverage of what has been happening in Tunisia and Egypt, Libya and Syria, since December 2010. "Theatre in the Arab World" was written with the context of the upheavals in mind, and with the awareness that theatre is often the most political and the most sponaneous of all forms of art.
